Calculate your chargeable shipping weight slab. E-commerce couriers bill you based on whichever is higher—the actual physical dead weight or the volumetric space your box occupies.
Volumetric weight (also known as dimensional weight) is a calculation used by logistics companies to account for light, bulky packages. A large box filled with bubble wrap takes up more space in a cargo airplane or delivery truck than a small iron weight. To ensure fair billing, couriers measure dimensions and convert the total volume into a weight equivalent using a standard divisor.
Dimensions in centimeters are multiplied and divided by a standard density ratio (IATA divisor):
* The divisor 5000 is standard for domestic couriers (Delhivery, Shiprocket, Bluedart). Air cargo often uses 4000.
